The institutions are sleeping, wishing their budgets are not cut. Can they really dream of continuing by showing the same marvels that were created twenty years ago or by hanging on to classics pushed to technical perfection and serving no more purpose than to make the public secure? Some say yes. But the tides are slowly turning, as large institutions have started to open their doors to the art-istic fringe. It’s the only way to filter this kind of pioneering work through to a broader public and push our late-blooming art form forward.


All is not well in the state of dance and indeed something appears rotten. It is being suggested that when invited to create work for an established company many of the cult pioneers don’t live up to expectations and the work is inferior to what they produce with their own groups. If this is true it must change. The question is: Why are these artists not making the necessary impact in a big house?
