You are rehearsing “Brickland” at the moment with your company, Dorky Park. The piece, I understand, will be dealing with Second Life, gated communities, and Scientology. Watching your rehearsals five months ahead of the Schaubühne premiere in Berlin, it all seems to be taking shape and running quite smoothly ... It’s true, it’s a long time to the premiere. It follows a process that started with “I am not the Only One 1 and 2,” my last two pieces. It is supposed to become a trilogy with all these matters of identity we are working on.

The first two parts are (1) about the journey and (2) becoming stranger and “Brickland” is about arriving and getting acquainted with gated communities and Second Life. I work with material that I develop with the dancers and I compose situations and give a context to them. I propose situations to start the group improvisations, and characters for the dancers. Honestly, most of us have been working together for six years, so I know the dancers. We understand each other. For me it is important at which point of their lives they are.
