Wild Eve’s Daughter
While female choreographers in their forties ponder upon their identities and their place in the world, today’s young choreographers are going through the walls without stopping. They don’t ask for anyone’s permission or apologize for their uninhibited drive. 25-year old Eeva Muilu, in her third year studying choreography at Theater Academy in Helsinki and currently working on her thesis, is of a generation of young intellectual women who do not feel the need to define themselves through their male counterparts.
Eeva Muilu has risen to the top rank of young creators with her solo piece “Vermiculus,” which won her the choreographer’s prize at International Theater School competition in Amsterdam in 2005. She was invited to the competition on the strength of her previous solo,
“Liikaa ääniä yhdelle” (Too many voices for one) which she created as a student at the Theater Academy in 2003.
Already in her first solo piece, Eeva Muilu revealed the inherent quality of her physicality and lack of inhibitions.
