Yukichi Hattori: «R-Hatter» in Tokio

As a dancer, Yukichi Hattori has been critically acclaimed for his unique presence on the stage as shown in John Neumeier‘s impressive piece “Winterreise.” And he now claims the proper recognition as a promising choreographer with the successful achievements of his own creations. After the well received new piece, “Wege” premiered in the Ballet Week in Hamburg, he proved his talent in two more interesting pieces premiered at the memorial event of his grand father, Ryoichi Hattori, a composer of popular music.


The performance entitled “R-Hatter” consists of two different pieces. The first piece, “Yabu no Naka (In the Bush)” is a delicate ballet based on the short novel with the same title written by Japanese novelist, Ryunosuke Akutagawa. The story is the facts finding court drama of the murder case through testimonies of three involved, well known through Akira Kurosawa’s film, “Rashomon.” Inspired by the theme, Yukichi Hattori has created the thrilling psychological ballet, with the clever solution only possible for a dance form, apart from the narrative in the literary expression or film.
