Gabríela Fridriksdóttír and Björk
joined forces, together with the dancer Erna Ómarsdóttir, and created a video. Björk becomes a upholstered host, a sort of Venus of Willendorf, who gives birth to a demon coated in a white stickiness – dancer Erna Ómarsdóttir – who, after a wild dance, withdraws back inside the host. In the final scene everything explodes, and hay-wraiths emerge from the background, as if a mutation has occurred in the electrifying atmosphere, and plunge down on the host, who vanishes and is absorbed into the whole.

Hans Ulrich Obrist What about your relationship with Björk?
Gabríela Fridriksdóttír We are from the same family. Our grandfathers are brothers. Our collaboration started in a kind of thinking out loud, over coffee.

And to what did it lead?                                                                                                  First we collaborated on Björk‘s Greatest Hits album. In November last year we shot a video in a horse farm in Iceland for one of her songs on the new album, “Medulla” and another for the tetralogia I‘m working on for the Venice Biennale.
