Stela Korljan: «Mario und der Zauberer»
Zeitgenossen entdecken in Thomas Manns Novelle Mario und der Zauberer mühelos Bezüge zu heute. Als ein Stück über die Freiheit des Willens choreografierte es Stela Korljan, Ballettdirektorin vom Schleswig-Holsteinischen Landestheater. Aus dem «Zauberer» wird der Ich-Erzähler, ein Alter Ego Thomas Manns: niemand anderes als der Generalintendant Michael Grosse, der sich als nachdenklichen und distanzierten Beobachter voll skeptischer Ironie auf die Bühne bringt. Gegen ihn haben Azat Gharibyans Kombinationen von Sprung- und Drehfiguren mit hohem Schwierigkeitsgrad keine Chance.
Ein Mensch ist frei, aber der Intendant in Rodinscher Denkerpose ist ihm überlegen. Thomas Mann schuf dazu einen Mitläufer, die Titelfigur Mario, der die reizende Silvestra entdeckt, die wiederum einen vollendeten Pas de deux mit dem Schriftsteller nutzt, um Mario eifersüchtig zu machen. Auf Basis dieses tödlich endenden Literaturklassikers entstand für die Bühnen des Landestheaters eine stimmige Ballettversion mit ergreifenden Verführungsszenen und einer sauberen Thomas-Mann-Moral im Schlussbild: «Wer zu gehorchen wisse, wisse auch zu befehlen».
