Jeremy Nelson
Jeremy Nelson is a dancer/choreographer and former member of the Stephen Petronio Dance Company. He has also danced for David Zambrano, Susan Rethorst, Luis Lara Malvacías as well as with improviser Kirstie Simson. He received a New York Dance and Performance Bessie Award for performance in 1991 and a Guggenheim Fellowship for choreography in 2004. He is a faculty member of Movement Research in New York and in the last 20 years he has taught classes and workshops in over 30 countries at venues including ADF, ImPulsTanz, P.A.R.T.S., and sasha waltz & guests, to name only a few.
In New York his choreography has been presented at Danspace Project, DTW and PS 122 and abroad in countries including Spain, Germany, the UK, Finland, Slovakia, Canada, Venezuela, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay and Japan.
What do you teach? I teach contemporary dance technique that emphasizes the use of the support of the skeletal structure and the deep supporting muscles, and the healthful and efficient use of the body. The classes are influenced by my years of study of Klein/Mahler technique, and more recent studies in Alexander Technique®, Contact Improvisation and Body-Mind Centering®.
