Self-ironic gay pride
This is the final part of a trilogy called “The Animal Nearly Mad – On Mutation,” following the solo “Bacon-punizione per il ribelle” (1999) and the all-female “Hello Kitty! In A Manga Mood” (2002), created by the 46-year-old Roman choreographer on the theme of his personal obsession: endless adolescence.
This new piece, premiered in Teatro Comunale di Ferrara in co-production with Auditorium-Parco della Musica di Roma, is made up of two sections: the all-male “Superficiality,” inspired by the world of Andy Warhol and William Burroughs, and a second shorter act, “Bastard Sunday,” vaguely revolving around the death of Pier Paolo Pasolini.
What is “I Need More” like? A very contemporary piece, it is somewhere between a kind of dance-theatre with “real“ people telling their own stories, most of whom are not dancers, and a non-dance piece, because “it doesn’t make sense today” to carry on with the “cold, worn-out codes” of contemporary dance.
