Adam Cooper has been a star in Japan, famous for his superb dancing with English Royal Ballet, since his first charismatic appearance in Matthew Bourne’s “Swan Lake” AMP version. He has performed principal roles in Japan in “On Your Toes” and Matthew Bourne’s “Play Without Words.” Several years ago, the huge success of Bourne’s performances here inspired a collaboration between Adam Cooper’s artistic team and a Japanese sponsor on a production of “Les Liaisons dangereuses.
” Conceived and directed by Adam Cooper and Lez Brotherston,“Les Liaisons dangereuses,” toured Japan extensively before coming now to Europe. Drawing inspiration from the French novel of 1782 by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos, as numerous films and plays have done before, Cooper and Brotherston seem particularly fascinated by its complex psychological trickery, sensuous flavour and sophisticated dramaturgy revolving around French aristocratic society.
