Shaping Europe’s digital future

The “Creative Skills Europe” platform

“Creative Skills Europe” is a Europe-wide network of partners in the audio-visual and live performance field, based in Brussels. This March, it hosted a European workshop seminar at Berlin’s Universität der Künste, on the subject of “digitalisation and innovation – innovative training methods in the digital world and the workplace”. Keynote speakers introduced various future-oriented projects and initiatives that capitalise on digitalisation in the arts and education.

The two-day event in Berlin brought together over 60 representatives of Europe’s creative economy and event industry to discuss digitalisation and innovation in the audio-visual and live performance fields, to exchange ideas and information, and to make and cultivate contacts.

“Digital literacy and skills” and “lifetime learning” – and how to achieve them – were recurring issues. Conclusions reached were that employees should be prepared to deal with innovations and multi-tasking in the future. More time and space should be given to experimentation with digital technologies for live performances, to develop new approaches. Competences, and curricula, need to be developed and diversified to adapt to the greater complexity and find new ways of working with art and technology. Continuous education will become essential; established training methods will have to be reconsidered and “knowledge alliances” formed.
