Der Choreograf des Jahres
«Thou shalt not kill», sagt der Tänzer Darryl E. Woods. Du sollst nicht töten. Auf der Bühne wird der Gashahn aufgedreht. Alle fallen in ein tiefes Koma. Dazu klingt 800 Jahre alte Musik, so entsetzlich fröhlich komponiert wie von Menschen, die die Kreuzzüge überlebt haben und nicht mehr wissen, ob sie nun bei den Engeln oder in der Hölle leben. Klar: Die Engel leben in der Hölle. Christenherz und Holocaust – dazwischen passt kein Atemzug. Eine typische Szene bei Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, gesehen in «Foi» (Glaube) von 2003.

Damien Jalet und Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, die Freunde, gehörten damals noch zu den legendären Ballets C. de la B. im belgischen Gent. Cherkaoui war dort der Ritter von der traurigen Gestalt. Und verließ Alain Platels Choreografen-Kollektiv, das «soziale Tanztheater». Interessierte ihn nicht mehr die Integration der Auffälligen, die Liebe zu den Schwachen? Doch. Aber Cherkaoui ließ dazu mittelalterliche Musik spielen, arabischer, korsischer, baskischer und deutscher Herkunft.
