Born in 1965 in Paris, due to political exiles, João Fiadeiro lived in Algeria, El Salvador and Brazil before settling in Portugal in 1972. He began his dance training in ballet and modern technics in 1983. His initiation into post-modern American Dance took place in New York in 1988, followed by contact improvi­sation in Berlin and the compositional strategies of Belgian choreographer Wim Vandekeybus in 1989. That same year he began his own choreographic activities, and subsequently he formed Companhia RE.

AL in 1990 with the aim of producing his own works, organizing events related to dancer-training and artistic research, and promoting the work of young choreographers. He regularly researches and organizes transdisciplinary platforms involving workshops on Real-Time Composition, lecture-demonstrations, and encounters between artists and academics.
