“Who needs the Butterfly Effect when you’ve got me? – Godzilla of the performance art world!,” says Liz Aggiss in hilariously accurate self-mockery, of a Barbie doll in red evening gown, seared onto a toy globe. As the doll bends in the middle, the whole world moves up on the ends of her feet. This prop is one of many in Aggiss’ splendid performance lectures in which she, with humour and incisiveness, outlined the essence of her craft.

Scottish Ballet was in a sorry mess before his arrival, the subject of a Parliamentary Inquiry, with demoralised dancers and a Board that could not make up its mind whether it wanted a ballet company or a modern...

Sean Dorsey

Sean Dorsey choreographer/performer, is the most refreshing phenomenon in dance theater hereabouts. A queer artist, born female, who prefers the pronoun “he,” Dorsey employs exquisite tact to make tender dances. Using the manners, gestures, glances, shrugs, shirkings of contemporary American masculinity, Dorsey makes mimed/danced stories of young love, which...

Sebastian Michanek

I think it is no exaggeration to say that Sebastian Michanek managed to surprise even those who know him with his excellent performance as Peer Gynt in John Neumeier’s ballet of the same name. Peer is one of the most difficult male roles in ballet, placing extreme demands on the dancer’s technique, acting skills, presence and sheer endurance and it is not the most...
